Prayer

August 15, 2014

  • Praise that the Lord provided our monthly funds to return to RVA a year ago!
  • Praise for a great school year behind us. Read the blog for updates about how our year went.
  • Pray for this upcoming school year as Joyellen tackles teaching full time, after 13 years out of the classroom (except for part time teaching during those years). She will be teaching 5th grade.
  • Pray for our kids- entering 7th grade (Megan), 4th grade (Lyndsey), and 2nd grade (Ian).
  • Pray that we will build meaningful relationships with students this year.

  • Praise the Lord for a great year in the US. We are now at the end of our home assignment. We look back on so many blessings this year - a house to live in, jobs, friends, a wonderful church, family times, etc. It was truly a wonderful, growing, learning, and rejuvenating year.
  • Praise the Lord that He is providing our needed support. In the last few days, we have jumped up to 91%!
  • Pray for us to reach our goal of 100% in the weeks to come. We are so close!
  • Pray that we would finish strong. We have a lot to do in the next few weeks before we fly - packing our bags, packing up our home, saying good-byes, etc.

  • Our Fundraising/Ministry Update night, A Bigger Story, took place on Feb. 23. We are so thankful for the many people who made this night possible - from family members, friends, and church members. Thank you! We had a wonderful night!
  • Our support level is inching up. Our support level went from 65% to 69% that night  - we are thankful to the Lord for providing. We still have a long ways to go, though, so keep praying for the remainder of our support to come in before July!
  • Praise that our kids really seem to be feeling more at home here. They love our church and our home. They still miss Kenya, but are starting to feel comfortable here in the US now.
  • Praise for time to connect with family and friends this year. We are really enjoying seeing many of you.

November 5, 2012

It has been a long time since we updated our prayer requests! Here are some updates:

  • Praise for a smooth transition to life in the USA during the last few months. We are now settled in our home.
  • Praise that Jeff can work part time at our church and Joyellen is now in the substitute system. She has had a few sub jobs so far.
  • Pray for our kids as they continue to adjust and make friends at school.
  • Pray for us as we balance part time jobs, ministry tasks, raising support and finding time to recharge our batteries too!
  • Pray for us as we raise support. We need to raise approximately $3000 a month to return to Kenya next summer. A big need, but we serve a big God!

April 13, 2012

  • Pray for our packing, sorting, good-byes and general transition process that really begins now. We have 3 months until we leave, but we are already beginning the process of leaving now.
  • Pray that we will stay engaged and focused on our teaching, jobs, and ministry this final school term and that we will finish strong!
  • Praise that we have a month to catch our breath from the school pace and get some much-needed projects done.

Feb. 28, 2012

  • Pray for the phone/internet system here at RVA. We have a team here this week from the USA, working on updating our phone system. In the midst of their work, lightning struck one of the buildings and now our student network is fried. Pray for wisdom in fixing this and for Jeff, who is involved in all of the work too. Thank you for praying! Things are in (fairly good) working order now. There is always constant maintenance on computers. Pray for the funds that we need as a school to recover from this catastrophe and PRAISE that the IT manager (who was on home assignment) is returning this month and Jeff will hand that job back to him! (Hallelujah!)

  • Pray for rain! We are in the middle of a drought.Praise! As of this week (Feb. 28) we have had several good rains and it seems as though the weather is shifting to rainy season. The dust is finally settling....
  • Pray for Jeff's mom as she undergoes chemo treatments for her cancer. She has four months of chemo in front of her. April 13 - continue to pray for Jeff's mom. The treatments are continuing and do take their toll on her health and emotions, but she is a trooper!

Jan. 11, 2012
  • Pray for good health this school term. January through March is traditionally flu season around here and it is hard to battle it in a boarding setting without it spreading rapidly. Please pray AGAINST sickness this term and that the students and staff would be healthy all term long.Praise! We are 2//3 the way through our school term and the so far, we have not any flu epidemic sweep through campus!
  • Joyellen is helping with details of a mission Ladies Retreat at the end of this month. Pray for the ladies that are attending, the speaker coming from the US and for final details to come together. Praise! The retreat went well!
  • Praise for a wonderful visit with Joyellen's parents this past month!
  • Praise that we are well-staffed this term!

Dec. 17, 2011
  • Pray for us as we start to make plans for our home assignment in July 2012. We are looking at housing, jobs, schools, etc for our family and have many decisions to make. Pray that God would give us clear direction.

Dec. 1, 2011
  • We are waiting for several staff members to return to RVA in January. Several families are low on suppport, so please pray that if it be the Lord's will, that they would arrive in time for school to start on January 3. Praise that two families-in-waiting have been cleared to come. We are still waiting to hear about one more family. We are excited that our staff list is really coming together for next term.

November 28, 2011
  • We just found out Megan is getting tubes put in her ears tomorrow morning. This will be her second set. Please pray that these will alleviate her ear pain and discomfort and improve her hearing.  PRAISE! Megan's procedure went well! We will blog the whole story soon!
  • We are in the midst of our Africa Inland Mission Spiritual Life Conference. We are really enjoying the speaker, Pastor John Talley and the opportunities for workshops, praise and worship time and the great kids' programs for our children! Pray that this would be a refreshing time for all. PRAISE! The conference went really well and not only did the kids love their programs, but we also felt refreshed and renewed by the sessions.
  • Praise that Joyellen's parents are visiting for Christmas! We can't wait to see them on Dec. 15. Praise! My parents arrived safely and we are SO HAPPY to see them and spend time together. Some pictures and stories coming soon....
